Dental emergency

Dental emergencies need to be assessed and treated quickly to avoid the risk of permanent damage. But how can you tell if your aches and pains are normal, or a real toothache you should be concerned about? Those seemingly small problems can quickly turn into a toothache you won’t forget if left untreated.

Please contact Sistova Road Dental Studio if you are experiencing one of the symptoms listed below. These symptoms require you to contact us as soon as possible, so we can provide further advice and minimise any delay. If we think you require urgent care, we will book you an appointment as soon as possible, the same or next day.

  • Swelling of your gum, cheek or face. If the swelling also is spreading down to the neck, up to the eye or along the bottom of your mouth it is particularly important to tell us about that immediately.
  • Strong pain which is causing a lack of sleep or prevent you from a usual activity during the day.
  • Mouth ulcers that are not healed after two weeks.
  • Progressing pain even you followed self-help advice.
  • A broken tooth or lost filling, which is causing pain and damage to your cheek or tongue, that you haven’t been able to manage yourself.
  • Knocked-out a tooth.
  • Bleeding caused by facial trauma.

An emergency dental visit can mean much more than a mere toothache. As a patient, it’s important to pay attention to what’s going on in your mouth. Any significant changes could be a sign of a greater issue at hand. If you’re experiencing a toothache and need toothache relief an emergency dental visit is always a good idea.

Update Thursday 5th June 2020

WE ARE GETTING READY TO OPEN SOON!

After almost 3 months of closure due to the coronavirus pandemic Sistova Road Dental Studio will be re-opening for the patients, resuming selected treatments, from 17th June.

What has been happening?

Thank you very much for all your patience and understanding whilst Sistova Road Dental Studio has been closed during the lockdown.

We have been following UK dental and medical community, trying to prepare the practice for safe re-opening. We have been training intensively in every detail during this time to stay updated with ever-changing regulations, policies and advices to ensure your safety before re-opening the practice.

What is stopping us re-opening on 8th June or earlier?

You may be aware from the news or reports that re-opening of dental practices is unfortunately not a smooth process. We are ensuring that we are fully prepared to welcome you back without compromising on our high standards of safety and genuine patient care.

Sadly, there are some difficulties (for example shortage in national PPE stock) that are beyond our control that stopped us from reopening on 8th of June and has delayed us until 17th June at the earliest. This may be delayed further and if so, we will update you as soon as possible. We want to cover all bases carefully before we can re-open to make sure we are as safe as possible for our patients and staff.

When can you complete your outstanding treatment or book your emergency appointment?

Please be assured that we are working very hard to organise our diaries and create as many appointments as possible. We will be confirming all appointments based on priority of care as soon as possible. You have not been forgotten and we will be in touch as soon as we have certainty.

We hope that you will bear with us a little longer during this uncertain time until we can safely return. In the meantime, please do email us on office@sistovaroaddentalstudio.co.uk if you have any questions, emergencies or concerns and we will be happy to respond as soon as possible.

We look forward to welcoming you back as soon as we are able to open safely.

With very best wishes on behalf of the whole team at Sistova Road Dental Studio.

Following the Government advice Sistova Road Dental Studio is temporarily closed, and we are only available for remote support and guidance for our patients. Due to the current pandemic of COVID-19 unfortunately we can no longer offer face to face appointments, however we are still available to help you with an emergency dental issue.

Except our email and phone support, we’ve created some useful tips to help you, if you’re experiencing some dental problems at home.

Toothache

The most common dental problem is toothache. There is many reasons for it and without dental visit it might be difficult to determinate what is a cause of the dental pain but we recommend you follow this advice to stop it or minimise it as much as possible:

  • Brush and floss your teeth regularly and comprehensively, you can also rub toothpaste directly to the affected tooth.
  • Massage the gum around the tooth so this can help ease pain.
  • Avoid extreme temperatures, such as very cold drinks or ice creams or extra hot food or tea.
  • Avoid sugars in your diet or acidic foods, especially sweets or fizzy drinks as they can cause or increase the pain.
  • Take over-the-counter painkillers for example paracetamol or ibuprofen.
  • Use over-the-counter anaesthetic gel, to help relieve the pain.
  • Keep your head up during the sleep. Lying down might increase blood pressure in the tooth and cause pain.
  • Keep the area cold. You can use ice or frozen products. Please, don’t apply ice directly to the tooth to prevent tissue damage or increasing the pain.

If your toothache is causing you excruciating pain, a loss of sleep and the above steps haven’t helped, contact us so we can guide you further.

We are here for you! Useful tips for dental care and emergencies during the COVID-19 pandemic. LOOSE OR MISSING CROWNS OR VENEERS.

Loose or missing crowns and veneers

The most important thing when you lost your crown or veneer is to keep up or improve your oral hygiene to minimise any pain and risk of infection. Please use a fluoride toothpaste and reduce sugar in your diet.

If you’re suffering from pain with a loose or missing crown, you can try to manage this with over-the-counter painkillers like paracetamol or ibuprofen.

You can also try re-cementing the crown yourself using temporary crown cementing gel. You can buy this online and in some pharmacies.

If you don’t feel confident to fix the crown yourself, keep it safe and clean so we can re-fit it for you when our practice reopens. Please make sure you contact us as soon as possible so we can add you to our list and contact you first day we are back to work.

Important!

Please, don’t try to re-fit your crown with super glue or any other non-dental material!
